Spain's under 21 side were held to a 1-1 draw in their opening match against England, leaving them with work to do in the remaining group games. Ander Herrera gave Spain the lead midway through the first half after Javi Martínez headed on a Thiago corner, although the goal should not have been allowed as the Athletic Bilbao midfielder knocked the ball in to the net with his arm. Although having most of the possession though, Luis Milla's side were unable to carve out many clear cut chances, and they paid the price when Welbeck picked up walker's pass in an offside position to equalise with just two minutes to go. Spain's next match is against the Czech Republic, who beat Ukraine 2-1 in the other group match.
