Spain finished top of their group with maximum points after a 3-0 victory over Italy in the last group game. With a place in the semi-finals already secure, Luis Milla made six changes to his line-up. But even so Dani Pacheco fired a shot against the post before Rochina took advantage of slack defending to open the scoring with just over a quarter of an hour gone. Another defensive mistake let in Dani Pacheco to score his third goal of the tournament a few minutes later, and half time substitute Ezqquiel completed the scoring with a cheeky penalty after Crescenzi brought him down in the area. Borini did at last test Aitor near the end, but Italy bow out of the competition after Croatia beat Portugal in the other group match.
