Spain's under 21 team will be going to the Olympic Games! The youngsters needed to finish in the top three in this competition to qualify for the Games for the first time in 12 years, but a 3-1 victory over Belarus made sure of a place in London, as well as (not to be forgotten) a place in next Saturday's European final. Luis Milla's side were strong favourites against a team who had already lost twice, and who only scraped through to the semi-finals thanks to a better head-to-head record in a three way tie with Denmark and Iceland. But they came up against a well-ordered defence, and went behind shortly before half time when Voronkov beat De Gea with a shot on the turn in the East European's first attack of the match. Try as they might there was no way past Gutor until a minute before the end, when Adrián finally got on the end of a cross from substitute Jeffren to squeeze a shot inside the near post. That ended the Belarus challenge, and in extra time Spain scored two more, Adrián heading a Capel cross past the keeper for his fifth goal in the tournament, and Jeffren running through to make it three later on. The "Rojita" now face Switzerland in the final, hoping to become the first country ever to hold the full and under 21 European titles at the same time. (22.06.11)
