Sevilla fell to a 1-0 defeat in their first leg match against Sporting Braga, and they now have to win by two clear goals in next Tuesday's second leg if they are to reach the lucrative league stage of the competition. The Andalusians started well, Luis Fabiano heading a Navas cross against the post in the opening minutes. But after that they hardly created any clear cut chances, and Palop had to be on his toes to save from Matheus on the stroke of half time. With just over an hour gone the keeper was in action again to palm out a header from Paulo César, but this time the ball fell to Matheus who headed back in to the empty net. It could even have been worse, Palop having to save again from Alan and Salino, and Lima firing a late shot against the top of the bar. In the end though Sevilla limited the damage to one, but the lack of an away goal could cost them dearly for the return leg. (18.08.10)
