Spain's under 21 side could only draw 1-1 with Finland in their latest European qualifier, a serious set-back in their attempt to reach the finals and qualify for the next Olympic games. Trailing behind Holland in their group table, this was a must win game for debutant coach Luis Milla. However his side found themselves behind early on when Kauko picked up Hjelm's through ball and turned a shot wide of De Gea. Local keeper Hradecky did well to save from Fran Mérida, and Botia hit the bar as Spain pushed for the equaliser, and Bojan levelled the scores from the penalty spot on the half hour mark after he was tripped by Ojala. But despite dominating the game after that they were unable to get past an excellent Hradecky, and with Holland beating Liechtenstein today, Spain cannot now top their group. They are still well in line however to reach the play-offs as one of the four best second-placed teams, but to make sure they will have to beat Holland and Poland in their last two matches at the start of September.
