Real Madrid became the first Spanish side to qualify for the knock-out stage after drawing 2-2 with AC Milan. Mourinho's side dominated the first half, Higuaín bringing an early save out of Abbiati, Di María shooting wide and Pirlo heading efforts from Higuaín and Di María off the line in quick succession. Only Ibrahimovic caused any problems for Casilla, and with the first half coming to a close Di María slotted a pass through for Higuaín to open the scoring.
One up and cruising, but then they committed Hari-Kiri, or better said "Casillacide"! Midway through the second half Ibrahimovic picked up the ball on the left wing and aimed a shot at goal, Casillas came out expecting a cross and could only twist backwards to push the ball up in the air, and substitute Inzaghi was there to head the ball in the net. And just eight minute later the veteran striker picked up Gattuso's pass in an offside position, and with referee Howard Webb waving play on, he ran through to shoot low just as Casillas leapt in the air expecting a lob.
Once again though Mourinho went for broke, bringing off a defender to make room for an extra attacking player, and it was his substitute Pedro León who saved the day with a shot through the legs of the keeper after Benzema set him up. A game that should have been won long before, but in the end Madrid were grateful for the point.
