Villarreal's bad luck this season continued with a last minute 2-1 defeat at Lazio, and Valverde's side ended the day in third spot in their group. The spaniards wasted several chances before Zárate opened the scoring for the visitors, but Eguren levelled the scores when he headed in Capdevila's cross close to half time.

Zárate hit the post after the restart, but things appeared to be going Villarreal's way at last when Matuzalem was sent off for a second bookable offence midway through the second half. However Senna missed another chance, and with the game in injury time Rocchi turned in kolorov's cross to give the three poinrs to the Italian side.
