Athletic Bilbao were beaten 3-1 by Werder Bremen on the second day of the group stage, although a draw between Austria Vienna and Nacional means they stay in second place in group L. Hunt opened the scoring with an impressive volley after Özil looped the ball over to him, and Naldo got on the end of Pizarro's cross to make it two a few minutes later.
Things went Athletic's way when substitute Niemeyer picked up two bookings shortly after coming on, and in the first minute of injury time Llorente gave his side hope after beating Wiese with a shot on the turn. But a couple of minutes later Amorebieta gave away a penalty on Özil, and Frings stepped up to make sure of a win for the German team.
