Valencia were the only Spanish side to get a positive result on the second day of the new Europa League, Unai Emery's side beating Genoa 3-2 thanks to a late penalty from substitute David Villa.
Fioccari gave the Italian team a half time lead shortly before half time, poking a shot past César after Kharja headed the ball in to the area. A quick-footed Silva levelled the scores though soon after the restart, and Zigic put the locals ahead from close up after Mata crossed in.
Midway through the second half Kharja equalised once again from the penalty spot, but Villa came on to save the day and ensure joint top spot of group B together with Lille.
