Spain's under 21 side dropped their first points in the European qualifiers after losing 2-1 to Holland on Tuesday evening. An at-times physical Dutch side took the lead with just under a quarter of an hour gone when Falkenburg steered a shot past Asenjo after the keeper could only push out Wijnaldum's cross. Soon afterwards Dani Parejo hit the outside of the left post with a free kick, and before half time Jordi Alba steered a header against the other post from Adrián's cross.
Holland went further ahead however when Wijnaldum guided a header wide of Asenjo after a good run by John down the left wing. Azpilicueta got one back after getting on the end of Dani Parejo's pass, and Spain came close to saving a draw when Diego Capel and Javi Martínez both hit the woodwork late on. But the locals held on to stay top of the group, leaving López Caro's side currently in second place in the table.
