Spain opened the latest edition of the under 17 World Cup with a brave 2-1 win over USA. Ginés Meléndez's side were left with ten men in only the second minute when Sergio Gómez was sent off, and two minutes later they went behind when Jack McInerney took advantage of a hesitant Edgar to score. But Borja equalised midway through the first half, and the Atlético striker set up Sarabia for the second on the half hour mark. The heat and humidity, not to mention a couple of floodlight failures, left the players exhausted though after that.
