Spain's under 16 side took part in an international tournament in France in October, López Caro's side finishing third after picking up four points in all. The youngsters beat Italy 1-0 in their opening game, Valladolid's Nacho getting the only goal. However they lost 2-1 to Holland the following day, missing an early penalty and going two down before Atlético's Luis Acosta pulled one back near the end. And in the last match they drew 2-2 with hosts France, an effort from Saúl and a Quesada penalty twice putting the youngsters ahead before the home side levelled the scores both times. Holland won the tournament after beating Italy in the other group match. (01.11.09)
