Under 17 European Finals

Spain 1 - England 2

Spain's under 17 side fell at the last hurdle, losing the final to England despite going ahead early on. With Del Bosque and several of the full Spanish squad in the crowd after making the short journey from their training camp in Austria, the youngsters got off to a good start. With twenty minutes on the clock Campaña's free kick was headed on to the post by Barkley, and from the resulting corner Gerard Deulofeu cut if from the left and drilled in a shot which Wisdom could only turn in to his own net. Eight minutes later though Wisdom made up for his mistake, heading the equaliser from McEachran's corner, and two minutes after the restart Wickham powered his way past two defenders to fire a shot wide of Ortolá. Ginés Meléndez made a couple of attacking changes, and Gerard and Jesé both went close later on. But England held on to take the title for the first time, leaving Spain with the runners-up medals this time around. (30.05.10)
