Sevilla beat Atlético Madrid 0-2 in this season's Spanish cup final to win the trophy for the fifth time and to deprive Quique's side of their second cup win in eight days. The Andalusians got off to the best possible start, Diego Capel blasting a shot past De Gea after Domínguez blocked an effort from Jesús Navas with only five minutes on the clock. Agüero had a couple of shots stopped by Squillaci, and Palop had to be at his best to keep out Simao and Forlán, but Squillaci could have increased the lead before the break had he been able to get more on a shot when presented with a chance close to goal. A few minutes after the restart De Gea made one of the saves of the night from Negredo after Kanouté set him up, but Palop responded at the other end keeping out a volley from Forlán once again. Nerves started to fray as Atlético threw everything forward, but with the game in injury time Navas intercepted a bad pass in midfield and outstripped Domínguez before rounding the keeper to score the second. The cup was Sevilla's for the second time in three years, and they will be the ones to meet league champions Barcelona in the Spanish supercup in August. A disappointment for Atlético, but they at least have the Europa League trophy to ease their pains. (19.05.10)
