Approaching the end January transfer deadline, and although things are starting to warm up, the market is nowhere near as active as in previous years. Zaragoza are the only club to make significant changes, new coach José Aurelio Gay cleaning out Ayala, López Vallejo, Songo'o and Braulio to make way for new faces. Many will be sad to see Van "the man" Nistelrooy leave the Bernabeu for Hamburg after deciding that he would otherwise have to watch the World Cup from his couch, but Real Madrid fans can at least be pleased that they have tied up one of the most promising youngsters in Spain, Sergio Canales (albeit that he will stay on loan at Racing for a year or so).
