Barcelona have the edge going in to next week's second leg after coming from behind to beat Athletic Bilbao 1-2. Guardiola's side started strongly, Iraizoz having to make a couple of early saves from Bojan and Alves. However on the stroke of half time De Marcos opened the scoring after turning past Piqué and firing in a shot which Puyol deflected past his own keeper. Early in the second half though Xavi levelled the scores after latching on to Pedro's square pass to shoot wide of Gorka, and ten minutes later Pedro got the second himself with an impressive shot from outside of the area.
