Real Madrid added the finishing touch to their squad this week after finally convincing Liverpool to accept a €30 million bid for Xabi Alonso. The player had put in a transfer request a few days before after clubs had failed to agree terms. Meanwhile Madrid's "operación salida" continues, with Huntelaar taking up an offer from AC Milan and Salgado graciously accepting that his time at the club was offer (in exchange for a handsome settlement). elsewhere though most movements came in the lower divisions, where Diego Tristán confirmed his return to Andalusia and Quique De Lucas agreed to lead newly promoted Cartagena's fight to consolidate themselves at this level. Three weeks still remain until the window closes though, and a lot more can happen before then. (09.08.09)
