Spain's under 19 side started the European Championships with a 2-1 victory over Turkey, although they must consider themselves fortunate to have come away with the three points. Albarak gave Turkey an early lead with an angled shot, and it could have been two a minute or so after the restart had Rochela not covered for a bad mistake by De Gea. But two minutes later Falqué converted a penalty after Juanlu was brought down by Serdar, and a couple of minutes after that Juanlu turned in a Jordi Pablo cross for the winner. France and Serbia drew 1-1 in the other group B game. (21.07.09)
Spain lost their second group game against Serbia, and now have to at least draw with France in their last match to reach the semi-finals. Juanlu got Luis Milla's side off to a good start, turning the ball in to the net after Oriol's header had come back off the post following a corner. But De Gea failed to hold on to a wide Ljajic free kick ten minutes before the break, allowing Milanovic to score. And after an extended half time break due to an electrical storm, Milanovic headed his second of the game after another corner. (24.07.09)
Spain are out of the under 19 championship after losing their last group game against France. Luis Milla's side only needed a draw to go through to the semi-finals, but their opponents came out strongly and Villarreal keeper Mariño had to save from Le Tallec before Brahimi beat him with an angled shot midway through the first half. Le Tallec hit the bar before the break and Gueye missed a couple more chances for France, and Spain's only reply were a couple of efforts from Dani Aquino and Juanlu late on. (27.07.09)
