Real Madrid have done it again, splashing out another €35 million on Olympique Lyon's Benzema to take their spending this summer to a massive €200 million. And it probably won't end there, with Xabi Alonso, Arbeloa, David Silva and others still in their sights.
Benzema's signing though means that David Villa will almost certainly not move to the Bernabeu, and there are renewed reports that Barcelona are offering some €40 Mio plus a couple of players for him. Other big clubs from outside of Spain are also asking.
Elsewhere most movements were in the second division now that their season has finished, with Hércules finally discarding Lillo to snap up Xerez coach Esteban Vigo. That has left the Andalusians rudderless for their first ever season in the top flight, although they are hoping to have a new man on board this week. (05.07.09)
