Valencia came away from Dynamo Kiev with a useful 1-1 draw which gives them the edge for next week's second leg. The snowy conditions made play difficult, and although the Ukrainian side had not played a competitive match since mid-December, Kravits fired an early chance over the top. A few minutes later though David Silva opened the scoring after Pablo Hernández and Mata combined for the latter to lay the ball across the front of goal.
Milevskiy went close a couple of times before the break though, and with just over an hour gone the striker equalised, deflecting Cernat's free kick past César with his upper arm. That was about his last play however as a couple of minutes later he was sent off for a second bookable offence, and Morientes came close to restoring the lead when he shot just wide of the mark near the end.
