Two times UEFA Cup winners
Sevilla are safely through to the league stage of the competition after a 0-2
win in Salzburg. Although they had a two goal lead from the first leg, there
was some concern about playing on an artificial pitch. Navas hit the side
netting early on, but Zickler went close a couple of times before
Kanouté opened the scoring after a good run by Adriano.
That knocked the wind out of
the Austrians' sails, and Kanouté got his second of the night from the
penalty after the striker was brought down by Sekagya. After that
Jímenez decided to rest some of his key players, and substitutes Acosta,
Chevantón and De Mul could all have increased the lead, the first two
bringing good saves out of Ochs, and the latter going close. Palop still had a
bit of work to do and the locals hit the post, but by then the tie was over.
