Deportivo have an uphill
battle ahead of them if they are to reach the league stage of the competition
after a surprising 2-0 defeat against Brann in Bergen. Lotina decided to revert
to his three man central defence for this game, with Colotto making his debut
and Omar Bravo a first start up front. But on a cold, rainy evening they were
caught out by a fitter Norwegian side, who took the lead from the penalty spot
in the twentieth minute after Colotto grabbed hold of Hanstveit's shirt as he
ran in to the area.
Bravo had a shot blocked by
the keeper and Lafita and Juan Rodríguez tried their luck, but Aranzubia
had to be on his toes to keep out Bjarnasson, and an excellent Huseklepp could
have scored a couple of times before a long shot from Solli went through the
hands of the keeper and in to the net.
Depor had no reply, and in
the first minute of the second half Huseklepp hit the post. Austin and
Bjornsson also fired efforts just wide, and the Galicians didn't get in to the
game until the last quarter of an hour or so, when Udjus did well to tip over a
header from substitute Bodipo and to save a couple of shots from Valerón
and Sergio. Nothing else though, and Depor's early start to the season to win
through the Intertoto Cup may come to nothing if they can't turn things around
in the Riazor in two weeks' time. |
