Sevilla returned to the
competition they won two years in a row with a 2-0 victory over Salzburg.
Capel's early goal gave them hope of a comfortable scoreline, the winger firing
a low shot back in to the net after Luis Fabiano dummied away from a
Jesús Navas cross.
But after that they hardly
troubled Ochs in the visiting goal, and Palop had to pull off first class saves
from Zickler in the first half, and Leitgeb and Nelisse in the second. They
could also have had a penalty against them when Mahop was brought down in the
area soon after the restart.
The fans started to whistle
at their own players, but with the game already in injury time Adriano and
Chevantón broke out of their own half, and Adriano finished off after
receiving a return pass from his team mate. It may prove crucial, as it is not
going to be easy on Salzburg's artificial pitch in two weeks' time.
