López Caro's new-look Spain side were thrashed 4-1 by neighbours Portugal in this friendly international.
The new coach had only kept five players from the previous squad, but with twenty minutes gone a slip by Athletic Bilbao defender Balenziaga allowed Arsenal's Rui Fonte to open the scoring.
Soon afterwards QPR's Dani Parejo hit the bar, and Adrián's follow up hit the hand of a defender. Parejo converted the resulting penalty, but Orland Sá restored the lead a few minutes later with a header from Pereirinha's corner.
And the Sporting Braga striker headed two more either side of half time from crosses by Pereirinha and Yazalde to complete his hat-trick and send Spain home with their tails between their legs.
