A single goal from Barcelona's Piqué was enough to give Spain a 1-0 victory over Turkey in Saturday evening's World Cup qualifier.
This was always going to be a difficult match, and Casillas was in action early on to keep out Nihat and Sentürk. Visiting keeper Volkan was not tested until he had to save from Fernando Torres shortly before half time. But Piqué beat him from close to goal on the hour mark after Sergio Ramos played across Xavi's free kick, and Silva, Xabi Alonso, Ramos and Mata all had chances to increase the lead near the end.
The win extends Spain's unbeaten run to 30 games, the last ten being straight victories, and they are now six points clear at the top of their group. (28.03.09)
