Second division - day 14
Salamanca stay in
second place, level on points with Xerez, after beating Córdoba
1-0 on Sunday evening. It was a close call though, Miku scoring the only goal
near the end. Third placed Zaragoza also left it late to beat
Tenerife 1-2, Ewerthon converting a late penalty after Nino had
cancelled out Arizmendi's earlier strike.
Earlier in the day
Hércules had briefly occupied third spot after coming from two
down to draw 2-2 at Gimnàstic. Castellón lost
ground on the leading group though after a 0-1 defeat at the hands of
Alavés. The Vitoria based side climb away from the danger zone,
as do Levante, who beat next to bottom side Alicante 0-2.

Leaders Xerez threw
down the gauntlet to the chasing sides with a 3-1 win over Elche on
Saturday evening. The visitors had gone six games without defeat, and David
Fuster put them ahead in only the second minute. But Mario Bermejo equalised
and then won a penalty which Pedro Ríos converted, and Antoñito
wrapped things up after the restart.
None of the other top five
played on Saturday, and sixth placed Rayo Vallecano slipped up again,
losing 2-1 at Albacete. Kitoko gave the Manchegans the lead in the fifth
minute, and although Aganzo equalised after the restart, Iker Begoña
headed the winner from a corner later on. Meanwhile Celta and Real
Sociedad cancelled each other out in a 0-0 draw, a result which leaves both
stranded in mid-table.
Down in the lower reaches of
the table, Eibar moved out of the relegation spots with a 3-1 win over
fellow strugglers Murcia. Toquero scored twice to leave Javier
Clemente's side further down in the drop zone. Bottom club Sevilla
Atlético are further adrift after losing 1-0 to Girona. And
Las Palmas are only just above the bottom four after they were beaten
2-1 by Huesca. (29.11.08) |
