UEFA Cup, league stage, day 1
Not the best of starts for
Spanish sides in the first round of matches at the league stage, Sevilla
the only one of the three clubs in action to pick up a positive result. The
Andalusians beat Stuttgart 2-0 thanks to a Romaric free kick and a
Renato header in a two minute period around the quarter hour mark.
Deportivo lost 3-0 to CSKA Moscow though, with 18 year old
midfielder Dzagoev scoring two early on and Vagner Love netting the third for
the Russian side after the break. And Racing Santander were beaten 1-0
by Twente, Denneboum heading in the only goal for Steve McClaren's team
in the fifth minute. Valencia had a rest day and will begin their
campaign in a fortnight's time. (23.10.08) |
