UEFA Cup first round, second leg
All four Spanish sides made
it through to the league stage of the competition on Thursday evening.
Debutants Racing Santander were the first to kick off, and a goal in the
third minute from youngster Edu Bedía was enough to give then a 0-1
victory at Finland's Honka Espoo. Sevilla also had no problems
seeing off Salzburg, a goal in each half from Kanouté, the second
from the penalty spot, taking them through 0-2 against the Austrian side.
Deportivo had a more
difficult task though after the 2-0 first leg result in Brann, and
although Colotto put them on their way with an early header, they were left
with ten men on the half hour mark when Riki picked up a second booking.
Colotto scored again though to take the game into extra time and then
penalties, and Aranzubia saved three spot kicks to give them a 3-2 win in the
shoot out.
Valencia also had
some difficulties in the last game of the night against Maritimo. With a
one goal lead from the first leg, Unai Emery put out a line up packed with
reserves. But Marcinho levelled the tie when he scored on the stroke of half
time, and it was not until twelve minutes from the end that Del Horno headed
the equaliser. Substitute David Villa made it 2-1 on the night though with an
injury time penalty. (02.10.08) |
