Second division - day 3

Hércules moved back up to the top of the second division after a 0-2 win over Levante on Sunday evening. Tuni got the first early on and Fernando Morán added a second in injury time to take the Alicante based side on to seven points. Girona were the only one of last weekend's leading four to get a point, a 1-1 draw at Albacete keeping them in second spot. Carlos Merino's strike for the locals on the hour mark was quickly cancelled out by Serra, and visiting keeper Rafa Ponzo did the rest. Xerez meanwhile were beaten 2-1 by Salamanca, Salva Sevilla scoring for the locals late in the first and second halves, with Antoñito equalising for the Andalusians in between. Earlier in the day Tenerife beat Elche 2-4 to leave David's Vidal side down in the relegation spots. The locals came back from two down to square the match, but they couldn't hold on after having two men sent off a third injured with all three changes made. (14.09.08)

Seven games in the second division on Saturday evening, with Real Sociedad ending the day at the top of the pack after a 2-0 win over Murcia. Xabi Prieto opened the scoring with an early penalty, and Díaz de Cerio wrapped things up later on to leave Javier Clemente's side down in the relegation zone without a point from their first three matches. Rayo Vallecano are level with Real on seven points after a 2-1 victory over Alavés. Michel put the Madrid based side ahead midway through the first half, and although Javi Guerra equalised with a quarter of an hour to go, Diamé struck the winner three minutes later. Only one of the top four clubs played though, Eibar dropping out of the promotion spots after a 2-0 defeat at Huesca. Rubén Castro and Roberto got the goals for the new boys in the first ten minutes.

Celta join Murcia at the foot of the table after losing 0-2 to Gimnàstic, and they too have yet to pick up a point. Senegal's Papa Diop and Cameroon's Serge N'Gal scored late in the second half to give the Catalans their first victory of the season. Zaragoza haven't got going yet either, and they are still without a win after drawing 2-2 at Las Palmas. Caffa and Ewerthon gave Marcelino's side the lead twice in the second half, but strikes from Saúl and Márquez levelled it both times. Draws as well in the other two fixtures, with the game between Alicante and Castellón ending without goals, and Córdoba and Sevilla Atlético cancelling each other out 1-1. Ito put the locals ahead shortly after the restart, but Cala equalised for their neighbours a few minutes later. (13.09.08)
