Pre-season fixtures
The big Spanish summer
tournaments took place over the last few days, with Recreativo kicking off by
winning their own Colombino trophy after beating Málaga and Athletic
Bilbao. Cádiz hosted the Ramón Carranza trophy as usual despite
their legal battle to be reinstated in the second division (their case will be
heard on 29th August, the day before the season starts). It was less than
friendly though, with the semi-final between Sevilla and Villarreal ending in a
brawl after Eguren, Viera, Capel and Dragutinovic were all sent off.
Cádiz surprisingly beat Athletic Bilbao in the other match, but went
down 0-3 to Sevilla in the final. Elsewhere Barcelona came from behind to beat
Boca Juniors 2-1 in their Gamper tournament, and Deportivo won through to a
meeting with Atlético Madrid in the final of their Teresa Herrera
trophy, which takes place tonight. (19.08.08) |
