Atlético Madrid came
back from a goal down to beat Panathinaikos 2-1 in the last minute of their
group B match. Javier Aguirre's side needed to beat their closest rivals to
finish top of their group and avoid being drawn against a Champions League
side, and the coach put out a strong line up. But they took some time to get
going, and fell behind when Salpingidis cut through the defence to fire an
angled shot past Abbiati late in the first half.
With nothing to lose Aguirre
brought on Simao and then Reyes, and with a quarter of an hour to go Luis
García picked up an assist from Agüero to equalise. Soon afterwards
Raúl García was sent off for insulting the referee, but even so
Simao won it with an injury time free kick. |
