Atlético Madrid are a
step closer to reaching the knock-out stage after beating Aberdeen 2-0. Javier
Aguirre's side were unlucky not to be ahead early on when Pernia hit the post
and Luis García wasted a couple of chances. But on the stroke of half
time Hart felled Agüirre in the area, and Forlán stepped up to
drill home the resulting penalty.
Up to that point Abbiati had
only been tested by a Severin free kick, and Atlético continued to
dominate after the restart. And half time substitute Simao doubled the score
with a curling free kick which came off the post and went in off the back of
Langfield.
After that Aguirre rested
some of his key players, and Miller and Clark both could have pulled a goal
back for the Scottish side. Mista could also have scored at the other end as
well, but Atlético had done enough, and they ended the day in second
spot in their group. |
