Getafe reached the league
stage of the competition on the away goals rule after losing 3-2 in extra time
at Twente. It was an incident packed match, with the Dutch side cancelling out
Getafe's one goal first leg lead on the half hour mark when Wielaert headed
past Pato.
Granero hit the bar with a
free kick before the break, but Twente had a chance to go ahead when they were
awarded a penalty after Licht handled in the area. Pato saved N'Kufo's spot
kick though, and soon afterwards Manu headed against the bar at the other end.
A couple of minutes later N'Kufo got himself sent off after an incident with
Belenguer, and with the scores level the match went in to extra time.
Getafe were given a penalty
themselves just two minutes in after Engelaar brought down De la Red, but
Manu's kick was saved by Boschker. Eight minutes later though Belenguer got a
head to be ball after a goalmouth scramble to score, and the game appeared to
be over when Granero put the visitors ahead on a quick breakaway two minutes
later.
There was still a sting in
the tail though, With Engelaar equalising again with a shot from outside of the
area, and Zomer making it 3-2 with a couple of minutes still to go. But Pato
was there to save the day in the last minute, and Getafe were in to the second
round in their first ever season in Europe. |
