Spain stay joint top of
their qualifying group together with Russia after beating Poland 0-2 in
Wloclawek. Honours were shared until midway through the second half, with Diego
Capel bringing an early save out of Bialkowski, Capel and 17 year old Bojan
Krkic having penalty claims turned down either side of half time, and Roberto
saving well a couple of times from Janczyk.
But the turning point came
twenty minutes from the end when Biakowski tried to dribble round Sisi outside
of the area, and ended up pushing the ball away with his hand. The referee
produced a red card, and with all three changes already made, Real Madrid
Castilla's Glik went in goal. Jurado curled the resulting free kick past him
however, and Raúl García almost scored a second with a long shot
which went just over the bar.
The East Europeans pushed
forward looking to equalise, but in the second minute of injury time Bojan got
on the end of a return pass from Mata to wrap things up, his first goal for
Spain at this level. |
