Spain's under 19 side
followed in the footsteps of their under 17 counterparts, taking this year's
European title after beating Greece in the final. With midfielders Javi
Martínez and Montoro suspended, Juan Santiesteban gave a first start to
Real Madrid's Dani Parejo, and brought Sevilla full back Víctor
Díaz up to a holding role in midfield. The early chances fell to their
opponents though, with Mitroglou shooting over and Sergio Asenjo saving from
Ninnis.
Spain only had a couple of
half efforts from Azpilicueta and Aarón to their name in the opening
half hour, but ten minutes before the break Parejo scored what was to prove the
only goal of the game, curling a wide free kick inside the near post with
keeper Stratilatis way out of position.
Asenjo had to keep out
Moniakis and Siovas either side of half time, and the Valladolid keeper also
saved from Papadopoulos later on. But Spain's defence have only let in one goal
all tournament, and they held fast after that to give their side their fourth
European cup in the six times that this event has taken place.
