Spain got off to a good
start in the under 19 European finals, beating hosts Austria 0-2 in their first
group match. With several of their eligible players away with the under 20
World Cup squad, Juan Santiesteban took the opportunity to have a look at some
new faces. But they could have gone behind in the first half, Salomon and Sand
both going close for the home side.
However Aarón
Ñiguez set up César Azpilicueta for him to steer a shot wide of
the keeper to open the scoring early in the second half, and the Valencia
striker then battled through to score the second himself just three minutes
later. Sand brought a good save out of Ramos a few minutes later, but otherwise
Spain held on to take a first step towards retaining the title they won again
last year. |
