Euro 2008
Spain 0 - Italy 0 (4-2 penalty shoot out)
Spain are through to
the semi-finals of a major competition for the first time in 24 years after
beating Italy in a penalty shoot out! Although Luis Aragonés's
team had the better chances, the game ended without goals. And after another
fruitless thirty minutes of extra time, it was all down to spot kicks. Casillas
saved De Rossi's second shot and Buffon responded keeping out Güiza. But
Casillas saved again from Di Natale, and when Fábregas slotted home his
kick it was all over. Spain had beaten Italy in an official tournament for the
first time in 88 years, and they go on to play Russia, who have recovered after
losing to "la selección" in the opening group match, knocking out
favourites Holland in their quarter final. (22.06.08) |
