Under 17 European championship

Spain's under 17 side got off to a good start in this season's European Championships. Juan Santiesteban's team beat Switzerland 2-0 in their opening match, Valencia striker Sergi getting both goals after the break. And in their second game they came from behind three times to draw 3-3 with joint group favourites France, Barcelona's Thiago scoring twice and setting up the third for Atlético's Pulido in between from a corner. Spain need a draw in their last group game with Ireland on Saturday to go through to the semi-finals. (07.05.08)
