Second division - day 34
With eight games to go
leaders Numancia are 14 points clear of fourth spot, although they
suffered a setback this weekend after losing 0-1 to Cádiz. Dani
got the only goal late on directly from a corner kick to give caretaker coach
Raúl Procopio his second win in a row. Second placed
Málaga inched closer to promotion after drawing 0-0 in a rain
soaked game at Racing Ferrol, and Sporting Gijón
consolidated third spot with a convincing 4-1 victory over Sevilla
Atlético, with two from Kike Mateo and two more from Jorge and
Bilic. They are now two points clear of fourth placed Real Sociedad, who
were held to a 0-0 draw by Gimnàstic.
Nàstic drop to second
to bottom though after the two sides below them both won. Albacete were
three up by half time against Granada 74, although in the end they just
scraped through 3-2. And Xerez beat Tenerife 2-1, Antoñito
getting the winner in injury time. Earlier in the day Salamanca won 0-3
at Elche to deal a blow to their promotion hopes, Quique Martín
getting two for the visitors before the break. David Vidal's side drop a place
to sixth, Castellón moving ahead of them on goal difference after
a 1-2 victory at Eibar later in the evening. (20.04.08)
Only three games in the
second division on Saturday evening. Celta kept their slim hopes of
promotion alive with a 1-0 win over Hércules, Okkas getting the
only goal of the game following Jorge's free kick on the quarter hour mark to
move to within five points of the top three. Bottom club Poli Ejido beat
Córdoba 1-0 thanks to an injury time Toedtli penalty to climb up
to within four points of their opponents in the table. Córdoba could be
in the relegation spots themselves by the end of the weekend if results go
against them on Sunday, and Alavés are only a point above them
after they lost 2-1 to Las Palmas. Sergio Suárez got both goals
for the Canary Islanders before the break, with Sergio replying for the
visitors after the restart. (19.04.08) |
