A magnificent result for Getafe in the first leg, a 1-2 victory against Benfica in the Da Luz stadium giving them a big advantage for next week's return match. José Camacho's side were left with ten men when Cardozo was sent off for lashing out at Belenguer in only the eighth minute, and De la Red opened the scoring midway through the first half with a shot which took a deflection off a defender. Pablo Hernández made it two after the restart, curling a shot past Quim from outside of the area, and Montorras got one back for the hosts a few minutes later with a long shot which bounced past Ustari.
