Champions League, first knock out stage, first
leg
Celtic 2 - Barcelona 3
Barcelona came from
behind twice to beat Celtic and take a useful lead into the second leg.
Vennegoor headed the Scottish side into the lead on the quarter hour mark, but
Deco picked up a return pass from Deco to equalise just two minutes later. And
although Robson headed the hosts back in front before the break, strikes by
Henry and Messi after the restart overturned the scoreline and gave Frank
Rijkaard's team the victory. (20.02.08)
Fenerbahçe 3 - Sevilla 2
Sevilla's match
followed along the same lines as Barça's although in the end the outcome
was very different. Kezman headed Fenerbahçe in front, with Edu
deflecting an Alves cross past his own keeper to make it all square soon
afterwards. Lugano restored the lead for the Turkish side after the restart,
and Escudé equalised for a second time later on. But there the story
differs, Semih scoring the winner for the hosts just three minutes from the
end. (20.02.08)
Roma 2 - Real Madrid 1
Real Madrid lost
their first leg match to Roma, a result which leaves the tie evenly
balanced for the return game in a fortnight's time. Raúl put Bernd
Schuster's side ahead in the eighth minute after Robben and Guti combined to
set him up, a vital away goal for the Spaniards. But Pizarro equalised before
the break with a shot which Gago deflected past Casillas, and Mancini ran on to
a pass from Totti to score the second for the Italian side after the break.
