Second division - day 19
Eight games on Sunday, with
third placed Sporting Gijón fighting back with ten men to draw
2-2 at Córdoba. After Miguel was sent off, goals near to half
time by Javi Moreno and Juanlu seemed to have wrapped things up. But Matabuena
scored two in a minute midway through the second half to save a point for the
Asturians. Sporting stay in the promotion spots after the three teams
immediately below them all lost, including fourth placed Elche, who were
beaten 1-0 by Las Palmas. Darino got the goal late on to take the Canary
Islanders off the bottom of the table.
Real Sociedad were
beaten 3-2 by Salamanca, David Rodríguez getting a controversial
winner in injury time from the penalty spot. Before that Uranga and Aranburu
had twice cancelled out strikes from Jorge Alonso. And Celta lost by the
same score to Tenerife, Jesús Perera equalising Manolo
Martínez's early goal, but Ayoze and Nino restoring the lead before half
time. Okkas got another one back near the end, but too late to change the
result. Sevilla Atlético took advantage to move back above all of
them to fourth after beating Hércules 1-2. Blas Pérez had
given the locals the lead soon after the restart, but Alfaro equalised a couple
of minutes later and Salva Sevilla got the winner in injury time.
Las Palmas's victory meant
that Xerez are now in bottom spot after they could only draw 0-0 at
Poli Ejido, who themselves are only one place above the relegation
spots. Only one point separates the bottom four though, with Racing
Ferrol dropping down below Albacete after losing 1-0 at
Alavés. Coromina got the only goal for the Vitoria based side a
quarter of an hour from the end. Gimnastic are also in trouble after a
1-0 defeat at the hands of Granada 74. A late goal from Javi Guerra
could signal the end of Javier López's time at the Catalan club.

Málaga are
back on top of the second division after a 0-1 victory at Cádiz
on Saturday evening, Baha getting the only goal in the first minute of the
game. They move ahead of last week's leaders Numancia, who were held to
a 0-0 draw by Castellón. Elsewhere Eibar moved up to
within three points of the promotion spots after beating Albacete 1-0,
Del Olmo scoring on the stroke of half time to cut short the Manchegans'
min-revival. (05.01.08) |
