Second division - day 5

Málaga are going from strength to strength this season, and they beat Eibar 1-0 with a second half goal from Baha to make it five wins out of five. Earlier in the day Numancia had temporarily climbed above them, Del Pino, Nagore and Mario scoring in a 1-3 win at Hércules. And Sporting Gijón are also in the top three, Kike Mateo getting the only goal as they recorded a 1-0 victory against an Albacete side who have only picked up one point so far this season.

Celta finally recorded their first home win of the season, new signing Okkas getting both goals early in the second half in a 2-0 win over Las Palmas, who ended the weekend at the bottom of the table. Celta's neighbours Racing Ferrol suffered their first defeat though, losing 1-2 at home to Xerez. And Tenerife beat Salamanca 2-1, Arruabarrena scoring a very late winner for the Canary Islanders (which our editorial team missed - sorry to our readers!), (23.09.07)

Real Sociedad seem to have got their season under way at last, a 2-1 victory over Elche taking them to within a point of the top three pending Sunday's games. A strike from Xabi Prieto and a Gerardo penalty were enough to give them their first victory in the Anoeta stadium this season, despite an injury time goal from Miguel. Gimnastic are also just outside of the promotion spots after thrashing a poor Poli Ejido 4-1. Maldonado scored twice and Campano got one in between with less than twenty minutes on the clock, and although Molina got one back after the break, Pinilla wrapped things up in the last minute.

Córdoba proved that they are here to stay with a 0-1 win at Cádiz, Arthuro getting the only goal early on to take the Andalusians into the top half of the table. Sevilla Atlético are level with them though after coming from two down to draw 2-2 with Castellón. And the other match on Saturday evening between Granada 74 and Alavés also ended 2-2, a result which wasn't enough to take the Vitoria based side out of the relegation zone. (22.09.07)
