Second division - day 2
Málaga join
Castellón at the top of the table after beating Alavés 0-1
on Sunday lunchtime, Peragón heading what was to prove the only goal
from Eliseu's cross twelve minutes from the end. Numancia drop out of
the top three though after they drew 1-1 with Elche, who had also won on
the opening day. Iván Amaya gave the locals the lead after the break,
but Rafa Jordá equalised in the last minute. Gimnastic are up to
fifth after a late 2-2 draw at Córdoba, Pinilla saving a point
for the Catalans from the penalty spot despite playing with ten men for most of
the match.
Tenerife move up into
the top half of the table after a 2-0 win over Cádiz, Nino and
Ayoze getting the goals either side of half time. Racing Ferrol are also
undefeated after beating Poli Ejido 1-3, a result which leaves the
Andalusians firmly anchored to the bottom of the table. Elsewhere Xerez
and Albacete shared the points in a 1-1 draw, and Sevilla
Atlético beat Salamanca 0-1 thanks to a Pablo Sánchez
penalty, a victory which they dedicated to their ex team mate Antonio Puerta.

Castellón top
the second division after Saturday evening's games, the East coast side coming
from a goal down to beat Celta 2-1. Antonio Nuñez had given
Hristo Stoichkov's side the lead with twenty minutes to go, but strikes by
Arana and Aurelio turned the scoreline around. Last week's leaders Sporting
Gijón were held to a 2-2 draw at Las Palmas, although they
were thankful to come away with a point after Jorge's late equaliser.
Real Sociedad beat
local rivals Eibar 0-1 to take their first points of the season, a
relief for new coach Chris Coleman. The only goal was scored by Gerardo from
the penalty spot after Vaughan was fouled in the area on the hour mark.
Elsewhere Hércules clocked up a late 2-3 victory at Granada
74, who were playing their first home game in the second division after
taking over from Ciudad Murcia in the summer. (01.09.07) |
