Casquero. Picked up pass from Albín and fired shot past Coltorti.
Getafe are the first side to
make it to the Spanish cup final after beating Racing Santander 4-2 on
aggregate. Michael Laudrup's team were defending a two goal cushion from the
first leg, but within seven minutes that was halved when Munitis turned in a
low cross from Jorge López.
After that it was end to end
stuff, with both sides failing to convert several chances. Uche shot straight
at Coltorti and Braulio and Belenguer both went close, and at the other end
Jorge López had a shot blocked by Belenguer and another saved by Ustari,
and Tchité shot over the top with the goal at his mercy. And after the
restart Colsa and Tchité could both have given the Cantabrians the
overall lead with a bit more luck.
With a quarter of an hour to
go though the Cantabrians were left with ten men when Oscar Serrano was sent
off after picking up two yellow cards in three minutes for heavy tackles on
Granero, and five minutes later Casquero levelled the scores on the night under
controversial circumstances, Albín ignoring appeals to kick the ball out
of play and passing through to the midfielder with Garay lying injured on the
ground.
The incident upset the
Racing players, and police had to break up scuffles between the two sides at
the end of the match. Getafe were in to their second final in a row though, and
they await the winners of tomorrow's tie between Valencia and Barcelona.
Valencia 3 - Barcelona 2
Valencia: Hildebrand;
Miguel, Raúl Albiol, Marchena, Moretti; Baraja, Maduro, David Silva
(Banega 75'); Joaquín (Arizmendi 65'), David Villa, Mata (Caneira 83').
4-3-3. Barcelona: Víctor Valdés; Zambrotta (Edmilson
82'), Puyol, Milito, Abidal (Sylvinho 62'); Xavi, Touré Yaya (Henry
51'), Gudjohnsen; Bojan, Eto'o, Iniesta. 4-3-3.
Goals: 1-0. 18. Baraja.
Made space on edge of area and fired angled shot past Valdés. 2-0.
45. Mata. Picked up short pass from Villa and placed shot inside near post.
2-1. 72. Henry. Got above marker to head Sylvinho cross in off far post.
3-1. 73. Mata. Fired low shot back past Valdés and Xavi from Silva's
cross. 3-2. 80. Eto'o. Picked up ball on edge of area and ran on to beat
Hildebrand.
Valencia will be Getafe's
opponents in next month's Spanish cup final after a thrilling 3-2 win over
Barcelona. Ronald Koeman's side were ahead throughout, although there was a
frantic finish after a late strike from Eto'o left the visitors needing one
goal to go through on the away goal rule after the 1-1 draw in the first leg.
Baraja opened the scoring
for the Ches early in the first half, beating Valdés with an impressive
shot from outside of the area. Before that Maduro had cleared a Milito header
off the line following an early corner, but Mata made it two on the stroke of
half time after David Villa took advantage of a hesitant defence to set him up.
Rijkaard had left a
disgruntled Ronaldinho at home and started with Henry on the bench, but he
brought on the French striker early in the second half. Gudjohnsen volleyed
over the top and Bojan fired a long shot wide as Barça looked to get
back in the game, and Henry headed one back from Sylvinho's cross with just
under twenty minutes remaining.
Just a minute later though
Mata restored the two goal lead after connecting with a cross from David Silva,
catching the visitors off guard still celebrating their goal. But Eto'o scored
again after recovering the ball when Marchena and Baraja cut out his attempted
pass, and there were some nervous moments before the referee blew the final
whistle. Valencia were through though, and Koeman now has some breathing space
after recent events left his job on the line. |
