Sevilla lost their first leg
match to Fenerbahçe, although the two away goals they scored gives them
a good chance of going through in a fortnight's time. Kanouté brought a
good save out of Volkan early on, but with just over a quarter of an hour gone,
ex Atlético Madrid striker Kezman headed Ugur Boral's cross past Palop
to open the scoring. Seven minutes later though Sevilla equalised, Edu turning
an Alves cross past his own keeper.
The Andalusians were lucky
not to go in at the break behind, Escudé being let off a possible
penalty for hands and Palop saving from Aurelio in the same play, and Palop
again keeping out a header from Edu soon afterwards. Kanouté tested
Volkan again with a long shot soon after the restart, but a few minutes later
an unmarked Lugano steered a header from an Alex corner wide of the keeper to
restore the lead for the locals.
Once again Sevilla bounced
back quickly, Escudé turning the ball into the net after Poulsen headed
on a Diego Capel corner midway through the second half. Roberto Carlos went off
with a bad cut to the shin in an attempt to block Escudé's shot, but
Vederson came on and drove a long free kick just over the bar. And with three
minutes to go Alex set up Semih for him to strike a shot which took a slight
deflection off Dragutinovic before finding the far corner of the net. The
Turkish fans celebrated, although Manolo Jiménez's side still have a
good chance of overturning the result in the Sánchez Pizjuén
stadium in two weeks' time. |
