Barcelona came from behind
twice in their first leg match to beat Celtic and take a useful lead into the
second leg. Frank Rijkaard's side dominated the opening minutes, Iniesta having
a shot saved and Henry a header cleared off the line by Caddis. But with just
over a quarter of an hour gone Vennegoor headed the Scottish side into the
lead, getting ahead of Milito to head Naylor's cross past Valdés.
Just two minutes later
though Barça were level, Messi picking up a return pass from Deco to
poke a shot past Boruc. Soon afterwards Ronaldinho fired a free kick over the
bar, and Henry volleyed another chance over the top. But once again the
Scottish side took the lead, Robson getting on the end of McGeady's cross to
send a looping header over Valdés, who was caught off his line.
Eight minutes in to the
second half equalised again, Caldwell giving the ball away to Ronaldinho who
set up Henry for him to cut in and curl an angled shot over the keeper and
inside the far post. That knocked the stuffing out of the locals, and Boruc had
to save from a Puyol header and a Xavi free kick as Barça went for the
kill. And with ten minutes to go Eto'o's cross was deflected into the path of
Messi, who dragged the ball round Caldwell and drove a shot wide of the keeper
to win the game. |
