Sevilla took a big step
towards a place in the next round after a 2-1 win over Steaua Bucharest, their
second victory in a row. The Andalusians went ahead in the fifth minute when
Kanouté headed Diego Capel's cross past Zapata, and Luis Fabiano added a
second on a quick counter-attack with just over a quarter of an hour gone. And
it could have been more, Luis Fabiano heading an Alves free kick just wide,
Jesús Navas being closed down by the keeper and Keita rattling the post
with a long shot on the stroke of half time.
But the visitors made two
changes at the break, and they got one back through Petre after Mosquera could
only partly block a cross from Iacob. After that Sevilla had things largely
under control, Luis Fabiano hitting the post and then heading just wide, and
the referee turning down a clear penalty appeal after Rada blocked the ball
with his forearm inside the area. Luis Fabiano and Jesús Navas might
have wrapped things up as well in injury time had Zapata not kept them out, but
in the end they were thankful for the final whistle which kept them in second
place in the table behind Arsenal. |
