Sevilla will be defending
the title they won last season after beating Osasuna 2-0 in the Sánchez
Pizjuán stadium, overturning the one goal deficit from the first leg.
With the visitors clearly set to defend their lead, the Andalusians pushed
forward right from the start. Puerta and Kanouté both put efforts over
the bar, and Kanouté was foiled twice by tackles from Izquierdo and
Cuéllar. However shortly before half time Luis Fabiano controlled a long
punt out of midfield from Poulsen, and held off two defenders before poking a
shot past Ricardo.
Kanouté could have
scored a second just before the break had he been able to get more power on a
header, and Renato shot wide soon after the restart. Webó had been a
lone figure up front, but he could have equalised when he turned Juanfran's
cross wide. But almost immediately Sevilla broke away at the other end, and
Renato got on the end of a Daniel alves pass to beat Ricardo once again.
An away goal would still
have taken Osasuna through, and Webó almost got it when he headed
against the foot of the post a few minutes later. But apart from a back header
from Renato which Palop clung on to they hardly troubled the keeper, and Alves,
Luis Fabiano and Duda could all have added to the lead later on. Sevilla were
still on track for the treble and a historic repeat of last year's victory, and
now only Espanyol can stop them. Glasgow awaits with baited breath.
