An all Spanish UEFA Cup final is on the cards after the first leg semi-final results. One finalist was already assured as La Liga sides Osasuna and defending champions Sevilla met in their semi-final tie, but the outcome of that match is in the balance after Osasuna ran out 1-0 winners.

The visitors were clear favourites given their position in the league table, but this was Osasuna's first ever semi-final appearance in Europe, and they weren't going to throw it away lightly. After a shot by Kanouté over the top the Andalusians were pinned back, and Puñal went close with a long shot soon afterwards.

More was to follow, Raúl García bringing a good save out of Cobeño with a header, and another header from Cuéllar being cleared by a frantic defence. Luis Fabiano had a goal disallowed for offside at the other in a rare attack soon after the restart, but a few minutes later Soldado got on the end of David López's free kick to steer a header wide of the keeper and open the scoring.

As is usual between these two sides there were moments of friction, Milosevic lucky not to get sent off early on for a punch on the blind side of the referee on Poulsen, and Juande decided to replace Luis Fabiano after he lost his nerves and got booked.

The home side were on song though, and for a few minutes it looked as if they were going to get a big score. David López put an easy chance over the bar, Soldado fired a shot just wide on a breakaway and Milosevic headed a Juanfran cross off target. But an injury to Dutch referee Eric Braamhaar inexplicably held up the game for six or seven minutes, and the momentum was gone.

The respite allowed Sevilla back in the game, Cuéllar having to clear from Kanouté after Alves set him up, and Kerzhakov heading inches over the bar. And Kanouté failed to see Antonio Puerta soon afterwards, trying a shot himself when his colleague was better placed. In the end though there was no more score, and all will be decided in next Thursday's second leg. The faint-hearted should not watch.
